Job Summary:

The Statistician I performs data analysis, data mining, and statistical modeling to support our mission of providing innovative solutions to the government’s next problem and provides leadership in improving the information captured from customer data to be responsive to the changing healthcare policy landscape.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conducts complex statistical analysis, ad hoc reporting, data mining, anomaly detection, pattern and trend analysis, and predictive modeling
  • Performs data collection, extraction, transformation, and analysis utilizing a variety of analytical and statistical methods
  • Performs quality assurance analysis and testing to validate the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of source data, analytic results, and peer results
  • Interprets data, draws conclusions, and prepares comprehensive, detailed analytic reports, including data visualization, to clearly articulate data information, findings, and outcomes
  • Presents findings in an understandable method to management, staff members, customers, law enforcement, and other key stakeholders
  • Assists in the design, development, and execution of statistical sampling methodologies
  • Serves as subject matter expert providing guidance and expert testimony, as needed
  • Participates in and contributes to the quality management system
 
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Applies advanced statistical concepts to research and analysis projects; and strategic planning, theory, and process to provide innovative data solutions
  • Conducts research on identified issues beyond contract studies, such as organizational and performance assessments
  • Works cooperatively with management and staff members
 
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, or quantitative field from an accredited institution required
  • Three or more years of experience in using statistics to support organizational needs and business objectives; preferably three or more years in probability sampling and extrapolation
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, or similar medical health insurance program claims and reimbursement
  • Experience in statistical detection of aberrancies and anomalies, preferably using tools such as predictive modeling, development of mathematical models, neural networks, and data mining or other analytical methods
  • Proficiency in performing advanced analytics using statistical software such as SAS, SQL, Business Objects, or R to support business needs and objectives
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel or Access
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong facilitation and problem solving talents
  • Not sanctioned or excluded from government programs by the Office of Inspector General

  • Ability to prepare complex data and figures and/or complete extensive reading and research
